I was invited by Indonesian curator Jim Supangkat and SKIRA to contribute for the book by analysing the global language of Indonesian contemporary art.
The essay Suddenly we arrived … polarities and paradoxes of Indonesian contemporary art results from interviews I conducted on 10th March 2011 with artists Jompet Kuswidananto, FX Harsono, Ashley Bickerton and curator Jim Supangkat.
In this text, I debate the international exposure of Indonesian artists, the recent interest of global partners, and the conditions of reception of the art produced in Indonesia at a local and international level.
